Hoo St, Werburgh Church
We enjoyed playing at Hoo church last night. The music was very much appreciated. Even got people dancing to Lady GaGa. Our next Bandstand concert is another local event at Dartford bandstand on 24th July.
Leas Bandstand
We kicked off our summer season this year at the lovely Leas Bandstand at Folkestone, a Victorian bandstand built in 1885, this really is a grand venue to play on. Our conductor Alan Jones likes to put on a varied programme from Classical pieces like The Force of Destiny, from Verdi’s opera of the same name debuted in 1862 to the modern Choral and Rock out by Ted Huggens first performed in 1973, interspersed by such classics as Oliver with music by Lionel Bart.
Solo pieces today included Misty- a trombone solo played by Harriet Thorneloe, Miss Marple, an oboe solo played by Eileen Johnston, The Lazy Trumpeter played by Graeme Couves, and Bring him Home vocal solo sung by Beverley Prankard.
Over the last few months our numbers have grown exponentially and today we had 38 players on the bandstand which was a bit of a tight squeeze to say the least!
We will be playing at Dartford, Broadstairs and Deal later in the season.
